Bamboo Plant is an increasingly popular, grass like plant that can form a lush carpet and is an excellent foreground plant in larger aquariums as well as a great background plant in nano aquariums!

Bamboo Plant (Blyxa japonica), also known as Japanese Bamboo Plant and Dwarf Asian Grass, is a dense and vibrant green carpeting plant that looks particularly excellent in the foregound of larger planted aquariums. It is very grass-like in appearance and its leaves can grow up to 8 inches (20 cm), although it often does not grow this tall under high light and optimal conditions. It is a fast-growing plant with proper care, and it will carpet all moderate- to high-light areas of the aquarium where space is available. It is perfect for use as protective refugefor fry in a high-light aquarium where fish or invertebrates are breeding.

Bamboo Plant requires at least moderate lighting, but high lighting is necessary in order to really thrive. With proper lighting, its leaves will not grow as tall and the plant will grow horizontally across the substrate. With inaqequate lighting, its stems will grow horizontally and have a generally disheveled appearance. It must be planted in nutrient-rich substrate and it also should be provided with CO2 supplementation, although some aquarists have successfully kept it in low-tech setups with enough nutrient supplementation.

This listing is for the tissue culture form of Bamboo Plant. Tissue cultures are superior to traditional forms of aquarium plants in many ways. They are produced in a completely sterile environment which eliminates the possibility of them carrying pest snails or algae spores. They have a shelf life (before introduction to the aquarium) of several months if properly maintained and they are housed in a nutrient gel until introduced to the aquarium. To introduce a tissue culture plant to the aquarium, simply rinse off as much nutrient gel as possible, then plant as usual. The nutrient gel will not harm your aquarium.
